Tag, You're It!: Playing to Win with RFID
Roger D. Blackwell, Ph.D.
To compete in today’s consumer-driven marketplace, you must remain open to new technologies and the improvements they can offer your business. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an emerging technology that uses tiny transponders (called tags) to track the movement of specific items across the supply chain.
In this presentation, Roger Blackwell demonstrates how RFID puts the consumer in the “drivers seat.” Audiences will be engaged by:
·The Details Behind RFID describing how RFID works and why RFID is better than barcodes. Detailed examples will be provided from industry-leading firms. Never before has the supply chain been able to track consumer preferences so quickly and in so much detail, allowing goods to be “pulled” by consumers instead of “pushed” by manufacturer forecasts.
·The Case for RFID providing bottom-line statistics on how RFID lowers supply chain costs and working capital requirements while increasing product availability and inventory turnover. RFID benefits will be compared to prior initiatives such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Collaborative Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishment (CPFR), Efficient Consumer Response (ECR), promotions, new product launches, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma. Challenges such as consumer privacy and the relatively high (but decreasing) cost of RFID tags will also be addressed.
·The Journey to RFID creating a blueprint for implementing RFID in your organization. A sample project plan with critical success factors will be included and barriers to implementation will be explained.
Many managers have already expressed interest in using RFID technology in warehouse and distribution operations. With applications that affect retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, health care providers and any firm that wants to understand where increases in efficiency and profits are likely to occur in the future, this presentation will motivate your team and provide the basic tools necessary to begin making RFID a reality in your organization.
